**Death Toll from Nepal Floods Rises to 626, 2,426 Still Missing**

*Kathmandu, Nepal – August 30, 2026* – The death count from the catastrophic floods that struck the Bhotekoshi region on Wednesday has risen to 626, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA). A further 2,426 people remain unaccounted for.

The NDRRMA released an update at 10 a.m. on Saturday indicating that rescue teams have so far saved 4,451 individuals. Medical facilities are currently treating 101 injured persons. Among those listed as missing are 27 members of the Nepal Police.

In total, 15,224 security personnel have been deployed for rescue, search, and relief operations across the affected districts. By 6 a.m. on Saturday, police officials reported the recovery of 616 bodies, distributed as follows:

– Chitwan: 233
– Nawalparasi East: 158
– Gorkha: 48
– Nawalparasi West: 47
– Dhading: 45
– Nuwakot: 41
– Tanahun: 31
– Rasuwa: 13

Subsequent updates raised the national death toll to 626.

Search and rescue efforts continue in the hardest‑hit districts. Police are coordinating with local residents and other agencies to locate missing persons and provide assistance to those trapped by floodwaters.

Local authorities are relocating families from flood‑prone areas to safer locations. Work is also under way to clear roads blocked by flood debris and landslides, restore transportation links, and open routes for relief supplies.

The floods, triggered by heavy rains in northern Nepal, caused rapid surges of water and debris in the Bhotekoshi and Trishuli rivers on Wednesday morning. The resulting inundation swept away houses, bridges, roads, and other infrastructure, cutting off access to several communities.

Officials have warned that as search teams reach more isolated areas and additional bodies are recovered, the death toll could rise further.
