60% Schools Yet to Receive Government-Issued Laptops

As the new school term commenced yesterday, 60% of the 150 schools slated to receive government-issued laptops for Form One students are still awaiting their delivery. The distribution process, which started on November 27 at Penal Secondary School, was part of a government initiative announced in June 2025 to purchase 18,000 laptops for incoming Form One students. Claudelle McKellar, Permanent Secretary in the Education Ministry, anticipates another batch to be released within the next fortnight. Education Minister Dr Michael Dowlath noted that the distribution is progressing in stages and is central to their vision of modern, inclusive education. Principals will keep parents updated as the process proceeds. Amid the laptop distribution, all 82 infrastructure projects approved by the ministry were completed during the three-week Christmas break.
