28 Illegal Immigrants Arrested, Ammunition Seized in Curepe Police Operation
Police officers in St. Joseph detained 28 illegal immigrants and seized 100 rounds of 9mm ammunition during an early-morning operation in Curepe.
The exercise, which took place between 10:30 p.m. Sunday and 1:30 a.m. Monday, was conducted at the corner of Rapsey Street and Knowles Street. Among those detained were six females and 22 males. Officers reported that no illegal items were found on the individuals themselves.
A subsequent search of the surrounding area, assisted by a police K-9 unit, uncovered 100 rounds of 9mm ammunition hidden in a plastic crate. No one was arrested in connection with the ammunition find.
Following processing at the station, three male detainees were released after their identities were verified. Fourteen of the immigrants were served detention orders, while the remaining individuals continue to be held pending further direction from Immigration authorities. The six female detainees are being housed at the St. Joseph Police Station.
