28,000 women sought protection from domestic violence in Costa Rica during 2026

According to recent data from the Judiciary in Costa Rica, a total of 28,104 requests for protection orders related to domestic violence were registered during the first six months of 2026. This represents an increase of 384 cases compared to the same period in the previous year. The reported cases include incidents of domestic violence, as well as sexual violence and femicides, which are violent deaths of women. These figures highlight the ongoing issue of domestic violence in Costa Rica, with nearly 28,000 women seeking protection during the first half of 2026.
