BULAWAYO — Two suspected armed robbers linked to the killing of Bulawayo businessman Tadius Rutanhira have been killed in a confrontation with police, while four others have been arrested. The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) stated that the six men are connected to 10 armed robbery cases in Bulawayo and surrounding areas.
Rutanhira, 52, was shot dead on September 14 at approximately 11:00 p.m. outside his business near a service station on Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo Street. According to police, three suspects confronted the businessman as he walked toward his son’s vehicle, shot him twice in the chest, and fled with a bag containing US$10,000.
Police identified the two suspects killed in the subsequent police operation as Mehluli Ncube, 45, also known as Mamba, and Muzi Richard Fambirai Moyo, 45. The four arrested suspects are Shelton Jubane, 37, Charles Ndlovu, 52, Prince Chisale, and Clive Ncube, 27.
National police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the arrests and the link to the 10 robbery cases. He stated that the ZRP is intensifying operations against violent robbery gangs across the country.
In a separate incident, police reported a shoot-out in Chitungwiza on September 15 involving a suspect identified as William Shereni Manase. Manase, who is wanted in connection with a US$108,000 robbery at a company in Ruwa on September 13, was wounded but escaped. Police recovered a Toyota Vitz, registration number AFF 7478, at the scene. Authorities are currently searching for Manase and three other suspects, identified as Obert Tinarwo, James Dhlora, and David Majagada.
Commissioner Nyathi issued a warning to criminal syndicates, stating that those who engage in shoot-outs with police will be dealt with in accordance with the law. The ZRP continues to investigate the cases linked to the Bulawayo group and the Ruwa cash heist.
