In a tragic turn of events, a 13-year-old Venezuelan girl, Erika Stefania, lost her life to a sudden brain bleed caused by a ruptured berry aneurysm, an unpredictable medical condition. The autopsy, performed on April 1st, 2026 by Professor Dr. Hubert Daisley, confirmed that the cause of death was a subarachnoid haemorrhage, a severe brain condition often stemming from a ruptured aneurysm.
Erika, hailing from Icacos Village, Cedros, fell gravely ill in the early hours of Tuesday, March 31st, 2026. She was transported to Point Fortin General Hospital in an unresponsive state, showing visible signs of distress, including bluish fingertips indicative of poor oxygen circulation. Despite the best efforts of the medical team, she was pronounced dead at 1:56 a.m.
The day had begun with Erika complaining of abdominal pain, for which she was given Panadol. Throughout the night, her condition took a turn for the worse, prompting a visit to the Cedros Health Facility. Given the severity of her condition, she was transferred to Point Fortin hospital, where she eventually succumbed.
Authorities have ruled out any foul play, confirming that her death is attributed to natural medical causes. Post-mortem findings further corroborated this. Following the autopsy, her body was moved to the San Fernando Mortuary. The sudden and tragic loss of young Erika has left her family and the community in a state of profound mourning.
