المغاربة استهلكوا 12.8 مليون طن من المحروقات بزيادة 4% خلال عام.. وأفيلال تكشف مستويات التخزين

On 3 November 2026, Morocco’s Minister of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development, Shafrat Afilal, presented data on the country’s petroleum consumption and storage capacity to the House of Representatives’ Committee on Infrastructure. The briefing was part of the discussion of the ministry’s sectoral budget proposal. According to the minister, Morocco’s total petroleum consumption in 2025 reached 12.8 million tonnes, a 4 % increase over 2024. Consumption of butane fell by 3 %. Petroleum products accounted for roughly 51 % of the national energy mix in 2025, underscoring the sector’s continued importance despite the government’s push toward renewable energy and supply diversification. The ministry’s figures show that gasoline (gasolene) dominated the market, representing 52 % of total petroleum use, followed by butane at 21 %, fuel oil at 9 %, jet fuel at 8 %, gasoline at 7 %, and propane at less than 3 %. In absolute terms, this translates to about 6.66 million tonnes of gasoline, 2.69 million tonnes of butane, 1.15 million tonnes of fuel oil, 1.02 million tonnes of jet fuel, 896 thousand tonnes of gasoline, and 384 thousand tonnes of propane. Storage capacity for petroleum products exceeds 3 million cubic metres. Liquid petroleum storage stands at approximately 2.4 million cubic metres, 90 % of which is located at port facilities. Gas storage is about 805 thousand cubic metres, with 91 % at ports. When expressed in days of consumption, the country can store 94 days of premium gasoline, 87 days of fuel oil, 77 days of gasoline, 61 days of jet fuel, and 58 days of butane. The ministry highlighted a significant expansion of storage infrastructure since 2009. Liquid petroleum storage capacity has grown by 129 %, while butane storage has increased by 127 %. The growth in butane storage, in particular, accelerated from 2024 onward, reflecting investments in port facilities. Looking ahead, the ministry plans to add more than 1.7 million cubic metres of storage capacity between 2026 and 2030. Over 700 thousand cubic metres of this new capacity are expected to become operational by the end of 2027. The ministry stressed the need for proactive, integrated planning of storage facilities, coordinated with stakeholders to match product demand and regional requirements.
