Panathinaikos secured a 1‑0 lead over CSKA Sofia in Athens after scoring a goal with four minutes remaining in the first half. The Greek side capitalised on a defensive lapse when a cross from Vicente Taborda and a shot from David Calabria found the path to the goal, beating defender Fyodor Lapouhov. In the second minute, Inaki Penya made a crucial save for the hosts, stopping a shot from Leonardo Godoy. Five minutes later, Penya again intervened after a powerful strike by Andrey Yordanov. Lapouhov then had a chance to equalise, delivering a shot at Santino Andriño in the left corner and a header at Rik van Dronkel. Yordanov, who had previously played on the wing, returned to his earlier role. Due to a shortage of a player in that position, Markus Gizdol started him against Panathinaikos. Another surprise was the inclusion of Isaac Solé.
